Overview

About Big Picture Money

Big Picture Money is local-first personal finance software for the desktop. It keeps an encrypted data file on the user's computer and covers transaction registers, budgets with rollover envelopes, goals, spending dashboards, net worth and reports, with optional bank sync and local AI chat.

What it does

Big Picture Money records accounts and transactions across checking, savings, credit cards and loans, supports split transactions and saved views, and categorizes spending with rules, merchant data and optional AI suggestions. Users set budgets with simple caps or rollover envelopes, track savings goals and balance floors, monitor net worth and run reports. An AI chat answers questions while keeping data on the computer, and automatic bank sync is optional. It is sold as a perpetual license.

Where it fits

It is an alternative to cloud budgeting apps for households that prefer to keep financial history on their own machine, replacing spreadsheets or legacy desktop finance software.

Who it suits

Privacy-conscious individuals and households that want full budgeting and net worth tracking without uploading financial data to the cloud.
